NZ Film Locations



We all know that the Lord of the Rings movies were filmed all
over NZ – from Matamata in the north to Mount Sunday and
Queenstown in the deep South – from Mt Ruapehu in the center
of the North Island, to the ‘Pinnacles’ area in the Wairarapa.
But as Peter Jackson himself has said, the most stunning
locations to be found in New Zealand are far from exhausted…

Indeed, we have glaciers, snowy alps, raging rivers and mirrored lakes aplently in the South Island – and forests, caves, beaches and geothermal wonderlands in the North Island – many yet to be featured in any film. I may be biased (being a New Zealander myself) but it seems to me that New Zealand is a kind of “dream” for filmmakers – having just about any kind of location you can imagine – and usually far less ‘crowded’ than you would find almost anywhere else.
